Can prediabetes actually be reversed, or is progression inevitable?
It can be reversed, and the evidence for this is strong — large trials show that structured lifestyle change reduces progression to diabetes by roughly half, outperforming medication in several studies. What produces the effect: modest weight reduction of five to seven percent where relevant, regular physical activity of around 150 minutes a week, and reducing refined carbohydrates. For Indian diets the highest-yield changes are usually portion size of rice and roti, adding protein and vegetables to displace some of it, and walking after meals. Progression is common but not inevitable, and the window is genuinely worth acting on.

Displacing rice with protein and vegetables rather than banning it is what made it sustainable for my father.
Five to seven percent is far less than people assume they need to lose. That framing makes it feel possible.
Lifestyle outperforming medication in those trials is the fact that should be on every prediabetes report.
