Cholesterol 240 despite army discipline. Genetics or the post-retirement paranthas?

Latest report: total 240, LDL 165, triglycerides 190. In service my numbers were always fine. Two years of civilian life and it has gone up like a bad graph. The honest changes: I walk instead of run, I eat breakfast at home now which in Punjab means paranthas with white butter, and I have a drink most evenings, which I did not before. My father had a bypass at 60. My doctor wants to start a statin. I want to give myself three months first. For those who brought it down without medicine, what did you cut? And for those who went on the tablet, any regrets?
