Dengue admissions at our hospital have doubled in three weeks. What actually works at home?

We are in the middle of the seasonal dengue rise and the medicine wards are overflowing. As a final year student I am mostly counting platelets and writing notes, but it has made me think about what people can realistically do. What I have understood from our community medicine postings: the Aedes mosquito bites during the day, not at night, and breeds in clean standing water, not dirty drains. So mosquito nets at night help less than people think, and the flower pot saucer on the balcony matters more than anyone believes. If you have fever with body pain and it does not settle in two days, please get a CBC done. Do not take painkillers other than paracetamol without asking a doctor. That is the one thing I wish everyone knew.
