Does taking a break from social media actually improve mood?

Studies show modest but real improvements for many people, particularly in reduced comparison and anxiety, though effects vary a lot between individuals and some people feel worse due to loss of connection. What appears to matter more than total abstinence is how you use it — passive scrolling is more consistently associated with worse mood than active interaction with people you know. If a full break is not realistic, useful experiments include removing apps from the phone while keeping browser access, disabling notifications, or restricting use to a fixed window. Two weeks is usually enough to notice a difference.

Good that it acknowledges some people feel worse. For anyone isolated, the connection is real.
