Fatty liver in people in their 20s is scarily common in our OPD

Something I did not expect in my medicine posting: the number of patients aged 22 to 30 whose ultrasound reports say grade 1 or grade 2 fatty liver. Most came in for something else entirely. Most of them do not drink. The common thread is very ordinary. Sitting jobs, late dinners, sweetened drinks, weekend biryani, no exercise. Nothing dramatic. Just a decade of small things. The good news according to our professors is that it reverses with weight loss and activity in most people at this stage. The bad news is that almost nobody takes it seriously because they feel fine. If you are in your 20s and have not had a basic health check, this is your sign.
