How do you stop comparing yourself to people on social media?

Recognising that it is a comparison against edited highlights helps a little but rarely fixes it, because the effect is largely automatic. What works better is changing the input: unfollowing or muting specific accounts that reliably produce the feeling, reducing time on the feeds where it happens rather than on the phone generally, and replacing passive scrolling with active use like messaging people directly, which has a very different effect on mood. Tracking how you feel after fifteen minutes on a given app for a week gives you evidence rather than a vague sense.

Muting specific accounts rather than quitting entirely was far more sustainable for me.

Passive scrolling versus active messaging is a well-supported distinction and easy to act on.
