How should you clean a wound properly at home?
Run it under clean running water for a few minutes — this does most of the work, and volume matters more than any antiseptic. Wash around the wound with soap, keeping soap out of the wound itself. Skip hydrogen peroxide and undiluted Dettol directly on the tissue; both damage healing cells without improving outcomes. Cover with a clean dressing and change it when wet or dirty. Seek review for wounds that are deep, gaping, from an animal or human bite, contaminated with soil or rust, or if your tetanus cover is not current within ten years.

Soil-contaminated wounds and tetanus status are the combination worth taking seriously in India.
