Long distance 8 months into marriage. How do couples actually make this work?

Got married in January. In March my wife got a role in Bengaluru that she genuinely could not refuse. I support her completely. That is not the question. The question is the logistics of being married and alone. We call every night, we visit every third weekend, we have a shared calendar. On paper it works. In practice I feel like I have a girlfriend in another city, not a wife. People who have done long distance after marriage, not before, how long did you do it and how did you keep it from becoming a habit that never ends? We said one year. I want to believe that.
