Lost a patient I had cared for three weeks. How do you grieve when you are back on shift in 8 hours?

He was 34. Road accident, long ICU stay, we all thought he was turning a corner. He had started responding to his mother's voice. Then on Tuesday night he was not there any more. I finished the shift. I did the paperwork. I handed over. I came back to the hostel and slept and went back the next night and there was someone else in bed 7. That is the job. Nobody said anything because nobody ever does. I have been a nurse for four years and I thought I had a way of handling this. This one has not left me. How do the senior nurses here carry it? Or do you just get better at putting it somewhere?
