Retired from the forces three years ago. Still wake up at 4:30 with nothing to do.

For 27 years every hour had a purpose. Now I have a consulting job that needs me from 10 to 5, a comfortable house, and a family that is mostly fine. On paper, I have it good. But I wake at 4:30 out of habit and lie there. The days feel long. I find myself irritable in a way that I never was on posting. My wife says I am looking for a battle where there is none. She might be right. I was told about the "second innings" adjustment before retirement and did not take it seriously. Any veterans here who went through this? What did you fill the mornings with? And at what point does one accept that this is not simply adjustment?
