What is the point of walking if you already go to the gym?

Walking and training do different jobs, and the gym does not replace daily movement. Total daily activity outside exercise has a large effect on energy expenditure, blood sugar control and cardiovascular health, and someone who trains an hour then sits for eleven is still largely sedentary. Walking is also unusually good at what it does with almost no recovery cost, so it adds to your training rather than competing with it. A short walk after meals in particular blunts the blood sugar rise more effectively than the same walk at another time.

Training an hour and sitting eleven describes most desk workers I know, myself included.

The post-meal timing is the detail worth acting on. Same steps, better effect.
