What is the safest way to handle raw chicken and eggs at home?
Assume both carry Salmonella and treat them accordingly. Do not wash raw chicken — it does not remove bacteria and it sprays droplets across the sink and worktop. Use a separate board and knife for raw meat, or wash them thoroughly with hot soapy water before anything else touches them. Cook chicken until juices run clear throughout, and eggs until both white and yolk are firm if you are serving children, pregnant women or elderly relatives. Wash hands after touching raw meat, eggshells included, before touching anything else.

Eggshells being a source surprised me. We handle them and then touch everything.
The washing chicken habit is universal in Indian kitchens and genuinely makes things worse.
