What should be in a basic home medicine kit for fevers and minor illness?
Keep it small and know how to use what is in it. A reliable digital thermometer, paracetamol in adult and paediatric strengths with the doses written down, oral rehydration salts, a pulse oximeter if anyone at home has heart or lung disease, antiseptic solution, sterile gauze and tape, adhesive dressings, and a measuring syringe for children's medicine. Check expiry dates twice a year. Deliberately not on the list: leftover antibiotics, and anyone else's prescription medicines. Write emergency numbers and your family doctor's contact inside the lid.

ORS is the most underrated item on that list. Most homes have none when they actually need it.
Doses written down is such a simple thing and it matters at 2am with a feverish child.
